What are injectables?
Injectables are the injections of specific solutions into your skin that reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your face. Injectables are either neuromodulators, such as Botox® or Dysport®, that temporarily stop the targeted muscles from moving, or fillers, such as Juvederm®, which plump up the injected area.
Injectables are a common non-surgical option to cosmetic surgery, providing instant results. Although injectables don’t produce permanent results (follow-up treatments are necessary to maintain results), there is no anesthesia, recovery time, or scarring. The procedures are also less expensive than cosmetic surgery.
What do Botox and Dysport do?
When you frown, the area between your brows wrinkles. When you smile or squint, the skin around your eyes creases. Both Botox and Dysport reduce the lines and wrinkles that result from those muscle contractions. They primarily target in between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet on the sides of your eyes.
Both products use a safe form of botulinum toxin, which Dr. Zakariaei injects into the muscles below the skin. This toxin causes the muscles around the injected area to temporarily relax. The decrease in movement stops the muscles from forming lines, which ultimately reduces the wrinkles in the area.

Results from these injections last approximately 3-6 months, when the muscles begin to contract again, and the lines reappear. Both Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved in the U.S. and Europe. The U.S. began recognizing Botox as a safe injection in 2002. Europe incorporates Dysport as well, now for many years, and the U.S. recently introduced it as well.

Juvéderm is an injectable filler containing hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body that delivers nutrients to the skin and helps it retain moisture and fullness. Juvéderm injections are FDA-approved to lift cheeks, smooth parentheses lines around the mouth, smooth lip lines, and plump lips. The results from Juvéderm look natural and subtle, and last approximately 18 months.
